advantages and disadvantages of social network sites

my homework: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social networking sites.

What is social networking sites? It is like facebook, friendster and myspace.These sites provide people social chatting, updating their status, meet new people and can view people profiles. Nowadays, people are addicted with this kind of sites too.However, when something became more favorableness it will come after with pros and cons too. So with social networking sites.

The first advantage of social networking sites is to meet new friends and this is the obvious advantage because social networking sites is produced because of this. People can meet new friends especially for those shy people. They can overcome their timidity at the same time because using these SNS no need to have face to face communication and can use this social networking platform to establish interacted online. Hence, when they really meet the people they can become more comfortable because they chatted to each other before.

The second advantage of SNS is can help to promote site or business for free. This bring pros to those small companies because incomes of small companies are less compare to those big company, they cannot afford the fees to promote their company by advertisement that cost them a lot. So, social networking sites like facebook, friendster and blogspot be their first choice to promote their site and product because social networking sites do not charge on them. Hence, indirectly they can promote their site and products without any charges.

However, SNS also bring disadvantages to people. People tend to forget bout their mother tongue or languages and become lazier . Normally, SNS provide people text chat and messages. During text chat, people like to use short form and informal language sometime even create new words. This cause them forget bout the proper way to write and talk, because they are weak in language. A very obvious example is chinese language, computer have pinyin that can choose the chinese words but this made us forget the writing of the words, some of them need to view back to the dictionary just know the how the word should be. Besides, using SNS will cause people become lazier to think and they even will forget to eat, drink and sleep. They addicted to the social networking sites until they forget what they should do.

Besides, SNS is lack of anonymity. Nowadays, people are putting out information about their name, location, age gender, and many other types of information that they may not wan to let others know. These caused many people got cheat by those cheater. Cheater will use your information to cheat on you. Because no matter how you privatize your information, they will still hack on your profile and get it. Most people would say be careful, but no one can be certain at any given time. As long as people can know who you exactly are, then some can find ways to do you in.

Social networking sites can cause many pros and cons to society but doesn't mean that is cant be use but we should use it smartly. We should plan our time. Be smart when choosing online friends. Because there are not 100% security in the cyber world, so we should think before we do.

hmm..how i think about cybersociety and communication..
for me cyber mean for technology stuff
like internet and all those things being computerise nowadays.
People use computer to do their things,
so cybersociety should be people who communicate using computer technology
like facebook, twitter, MSN, plurk and other communication tools.
to make our relationship become nearer to whole world.
we can easily communicate via cyber stuff.
so, learning this subject can bring more knowledge about the cyber and the society
and it is useful for our daily life.

anyway, hope my new sem is a happy study day..
for all my couremates and me..^^
